Jefferson Academy Of advanced learning Uniform Dress Policy

Jefferson Academy of Advanced learning expects its students to demonstrate good taste and modesty in their appearance, as is appropriate to this educational environment. The administration and faculty will monitor student appearance. The mentor will have ultimate responsibility and authority for all issues pertaining to the Uniform Dress Policy for the students in their class. Students are expected to be appropriately dressed at all Jefferson Academy activities such as evening performances and field trips unless otherwise instructed by their mentor. The Uniform Dress Policy is in effect from 7:00 AM until 4:00 PM. The policy applies during all school days, school activities and field trips, unless otherwise specified. Students not adhering to any part of the uniform policy will be sent home to change. There will be no exceptions. This uniform dress policy will apply to all students except where there are specific instructional, safety, or medical reasons. (Photos are only examples of dress code items.)

  • Pants and shorts will be solid khaki, navy, or gray dress pant. Pants and shorts must fit properly at the waist, the inseam, and the hem. Hems and cuffs must be properly stitched. Shorts must be a walking/dress variety and not shorter than two inches above the knee.
  • Baggy pants are never acceptable.
  • Denim is currently permitted in all standard shades of denim blue, along with khaki, navy, or gray. Pants and shorts must fit properly at the waist, the inseam, and the hem. Hems and cuffs must be properly stitched. Shorts must be no shorter than two inches above the knee. No holes or wear (ornamental or otherwise).

  • Skirts, skorts and jumpers will be solid khaki, navy, or gray.
  • Skirts, skorts, jumpers and dresses are to be no shorter than two inches above the knee.
  • Hems on long skirts must be properly stitched and may not touch the ground.
  • Dresses must be a solid uniform color. Necklines must be no lower than the collarbone.

Shirts: (Boys)

  • Collared shirts will be solid navy, light blue, red, or white.
  • T-shirts with Jefferson logo may be worn in appropriate color.
  • All shirts may be short or long sleeved
  • Ties are optional but may be worn.
  • Optional vests must be a uniform color.

 

Shirts: (Girls)9627829

  • Collared shirts and blouses will be solid navy, light blue, pink, or white.
  • T-shirts with Jefferson logo may be worn in appropriate color.
  • All tops may be short or long sleeved. Sleeveless tops are not permitted.
  • Tank tops worn under clothing for modesty must be a uniform color
  • Optional vests must be a uniform color.
  • Shirts must be modest. Blouses must be buttoned modestly. No low necklines. Tummies and back may not show at any time.

Jackets, Coats and Sweaters: (Boys and Girls)

  • Coats, jackets, and sweatshirts worn during class must be solid uniform color.
  • Plaid jackets or shirts are not allowed on campus.
  • Sweaters may be worn as part of an ensemble and must be a solid uniform color.
  • Approved uniform clothing must be worn underneath coats, jackets, sweaters, or sweatshirts at all times.
  • Approved manufacturers’ logos of no more than 2” X 2” on jackets, coats, or sweatshirts are acceptable.
  • Winter outerwear of any color may be worn to school but must be removed immediately after entering the building.
  • Outerwear having logos or symbols of a reactive nature is not allowed on campus at any time.

  • Shoes must be brown, black, navy, or white. They may have tie, buckle, or Velcro closures. They must fit snugly as to not slip off.
  • For safety reasons shoes must have a closed toe and heel with the heel being no more than 2 inches high.
  • Athletic shoes must be solid in color, with limited or no markings, and must be tied properly at all times.

 

Miscellaneous

  • Accessories like jewelry that are simple and in good taste may be worn. Girls may wear one small stud earring in each ear, no hoops. Earrings for boys are not allowed. Earrings covered with band aids are not permitted. New piercings in an illegal area must be removed prior to coming on campus.
  • For your child’s safety, body piercing is not allowed.
  • Make-up may be worn by 7-12 grade girls only. Students may not wear colored fingernail polish.
  • Belts may be worn at all times and will be worn with no excess length hanging down. Belt buckles must be plain (no initials, emblems, studs, or writing.) Buckles must be worn in the center of pants. No chains of any kind may be worn from pants.
  • Tattoos may not be visible at any time; this will also include writing on one’s skin with pen, markers, etc.
  • Any accessories or styles not posted on dress code policy will not be accepted.
  • Torn or dirty clothing, frayed pants legs, or clothing in poor repair is not allowed. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • Underwear of any kind may not show at any time. This includes dark underwear showing under a light color top or blouse.
  • Hair colors may be of a natural color ONLY. Hairstyles that are disruptive to the educational process will not be allowed.
  • Hair accessories such as bows and hair clips must small and in good taste. They may be navy, khaki, white, light blue, or pink.
  • Writing or decorations on uniforms, backpacks, or notebooks will not be allowed.

Jefferson Academy Dress Out Policy

Upon occasion, a Dress Out Day will be called. Dress Out clothing must maintain an air of respect and discipline. Immodest, sloppy, or shock culture clothing may NOT be worn or brought on campus at any time. Dress Out implies dressing out of uniform. Many students take this opportunity to wear dressier clothing that does not adhere to the uniform code. This is encouraged and applauded. However, a newer pair of jeans and a nicer shirt would be considered appropriate.

A good rule of thumb is to wear clothing that one would wear to a nice restaurant or to church.

  • Underwear of any kind may not show; this includes dark underclothing under a light colored shirt.
  • Logos of a negative or explicit nature will not be permitted on campus. (School personnel will make Interpretation of such.)
  • For safety reasons shoes must have a closed toe and heel. (This is required by our insurance)
  • Clothing must be clean and in good repair.
